Itchenor

Itchenor is one of the prettiest villages in Chichester Harbour and as the tides allow for 24 hour launching, it has a very vibrant sailing community.  Itchenor Sailing Club https://www.itchenorsc.co.uk/ is at the heart of the village and whilst it is busy all year round, it truly comes to life during Junior Fortnight in July each year.

A trip on the tiny Itchenor Ferry is a great way to see the harbour for those who don’t have their own boat. It is also a fun way to get from Itchenor over to Bosham.  It runs from April to the end of October https://www.itchenorferry.co.uk/.  For those with more time, you can also take a tour of Chichester Harbour https://www.conservancy.co.uk/page/solar-heritage/349/

Out & About

The Ship Inn https://www.theshipinnitchenor.co.uk/ is a great pub, which serves very good food.  It is moments from the seafront and is a local favourite.  Situated only a few hundred metres from the Salterns Way it is also popular with cyclists and walkers.

The Salterns Way footpath and cycle path is 19 km long and runs from the centre of Chichester to West Wittering beach.  Much of it runs along safe and car-free paths so it a good place for families to cycle together.  Other parts follow quiet lanes where there is very little traffic.  The route is extremely flat making it ideal for easy cycling https://www.conservancy.co.uk/assets/assets/salternsway_2012.pdf.  You can also cycle in other areas of the Manhood Peninsula so bringing your bike on holiday is a great idea. https://peninsulapartnership.org.uk/abd/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Circular-Cycle-Tours-20111.pdf

As you leave Itchenor you will pass another of the best pubs in the area.  The Lamb Inn serves exceptional quality food and is owned by the same great chef who runs Samphire in East Wittering.  https://www.thelambwittering.co.uk/ The pub has a small playground and chickens in the garden, which is always a big hit with the children.
