We can’t quite believe that it’s been an entire year since we went into lockdown 1.0 and were told to stay at home.
With spring almost upon us, and the roadmap out of the current restrictions looking positive, the Wellies & Windbreaks team are feeling extremely hopeful for the summer season ahead. With many families eagerly awaiting their staycation here in the Witterings, and locals chomping at the bit to get out and about again, we hope that the village will be buzzing very soon!
Over the last couple of weeks, the announcement was made that pubs and restaurants will be allowed to serve food and alcohol outdoors (yippee!) and we’ve spotted lots of our local favourites announcing their plans for this.
With luck, by May we’ll be allowed back inside our local haunts but in the meantime, let’s all offer up a prayer to the sun gods and hope that the Great British weather stays on our side!

Pubs
The Old House at Home – West Wittering
Situated in the heart of West Wittering village and only a 5-minute walk to the beach, The Old House at Home is a fantastic modern pub serving good food with local ingredients, real ales and chilled wine!
Opening on 14th April for outdoor reservations under their covered and heated tables. These can be booked via the website here.
Crown & Anchor – Dell Quay
The Crown and Anchor delivers it all! Situated on the waters edge, with spectacular views across Chichester Harbour, it’s not hard to see why this pub is loved by many.
Outside bookings are open for reservations from April 12th and can be booked on the website here.
The Lamb Inn – West Wittering
Whether it’s a quick bite after a long day at the beach or a hearty meal by the fireside in winter, The Lamb Inn is the place to be.
The handmade pirate ship playground in the garden is a winner with the little ones and the rustic pizza oven popular with the grownups. This 18th century country pub is just 2 miles from the sea and is much loved by the locals.
With 25 tables in the garden, the team at The Lamb want to encourage walk ins and the feeling of being a pub again. However, should you wish to book a table in advance from 12th April onwards, please get in touch with the team via email.

Restaurants
Drifters – East Wittering
Drifters Kitchen Bar is a family run restaurant in East Wittering, set just back from the beach. Watch the world go by from the sofas made from reclaimed pallets out front and spot the surfers coming back in!
The team plan to open their new outside, covered seating area on 12th April for alfresco dining and drinking. More tables have been added to make the most of their large deck – first come, first served!
Until then, the full Drifters menu is available to take away. Orders can be made via the Hopt app or swing by the restaurant to place your order there and then.
Billys on the Beach – Bracklesham Bay
A seaside restaurant serving fresh, local and seasonal produce that’s cooked to perfection. In addition to the regular menu, Billy’s offers a range of delicious daily specials, ice cream sundaes for those scorchers plus breakfasts and brunches!
We’re keeping everything crossed that Billy’s will open up their outdoor dining soon (they’re yet to announce their plans in line with restrictions easing), but in the meantime, the full menu is available to take away every day from 9am – 6pm – check it out here.
Cider House Kitchen – Birdham Rd, Chichester
Eat, drink and relax at the Cider House Kitchen. This tasty Italian restaurant is situated on the outskirts of the Witterings on farmland surrounded by the beautiful West Sussex countryside. They serve fantastic pizzas which can be enjoyed in the garden or ordered to take away.
Great news – their outdoor dining area is reopening on 12th April! Book via their website and enjoy an authentic Italian meal on their patio.
